Toyota's factory mobility car, in the body built for it. The Spade is the Japanese-market tall hatch with one enormous power sliding door on the passenger side and no centre pillar behind it — the widest side opening of any small car — and the Welcab is Toyota's own factory conversion: the front passenger seat swivels out and lowers toward the kerb on a hand-operated lift so a passenger transfers from a wheelchair at seat height, with a wheelchair storage device fitted for the chair itself. A 1.5-litre petrol with a CVT, Toyota Safety Sense and a reversing camera, built and converted by Toyota rather than an aftermarket shop. For a carer, a family with a parent who needs help getting in, or a wheelchair user who transfers — this is the car that does it without a van.
