The Japanese-market version of the car Australia knew as the Lexus SC430. In Japan it wore the Soarer name that Toyota had used on its flagship coupes since 1981, with the same 4.3-litre 3UZ V8 and the same party trick: an electric folding metal roof that turns a quiet, heated-leather coupe into an open V8 grand tourer in about 25 seconds. This is an August 2001 car, from the first full year, on the 25-year rule and now eligible to come here. Lexus built the SC430 alongside it and sold it in Australia, so mechanical parts and servicing are local. A V8 convertible for the price of a small hatch.
