The STI Australia never got: the automatic. The A-Line was Subaru's Japan-only answer to the STI owner who wanted the car without the six-speed — the 2.5-litre turbo EJ25 at 221 kW and 350 Nm, driven through a five-speed automatic with paddles and SI-Drive to full-time symmetrical all-wheel drive with a variable torque-split centre diff. Same wide-body hatch, same Brembo brakes and 18-inch wheels as the manual STI, with HID headlights, cruise control and heated seats as it left the factory. This one has covered under 24,000 km in seventeen years — a figure verified against its Japanese export paperwork — with its owner's manual, service book and both keys. An STI for the daily commute, and one of the rarest ways to own one.
